EOS Celebrates International Women’s Day

 In Updates from the field

March 8th is International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity and improving the lives of women around the world.

Having access to safe water empowers women by helping women and their families stay healthy, in school and at work creating a more prosperous life for women and their entire communities.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we wanted to share the stories of just a few women who are making a difference where we work.

A Female Plumber

Meet Doña Gómez. Doña Xiomara Gómez is a plumber and is responsible for chlorination in the water system of the community of 180 people in Ojo de Agua, Honduras where our team has been working with the water board since 2017. Gómez is grateful for our partnership as clean water has meant also a healthy body and mind. She also is thrilled to take on a leadership role and fight for gender equality as a female plumber and head of the water board.
