Gloria is a small farmer, a community health volunteer, and a regular vendor at the Sunday market in Marcala. Her Sunday stall boasts coffee grounds by the pound and baskets of bright organic produce. As a community health volunteer, she collaborates with Cova to complete regular water quality tests at the household level, focusing on the homes of pregnant women and vulnerable people. The results she reports to Cova allow any required adjustments to be made quickly to ensure sustained safe water for entire communities.
On this day, Gloria’s granddaughter joins her in her market stall. Her small hands have helped to pick the vegetables, and she scoops coffee into bags, mimicking the movements of the mentor that she keenly observes. In much this same way, she is always watching. She sees her grandmother and the great care she takes in her role in water management. Gloria is like that, taking great care and showing great commitment. Women are like that. And how wonderful it is that young women are watching.
