Grounded In Community

 In Updates from the field

When Cova technicians and Water Board members arrived early to Kamalote Dolores, Honduras to install a chlorinator on the community water tank behind Rosa Melida’s house, she greeted them with tortillas still warm from the stove. By midday, under the heat of the sun, she offered cold drinks. And when the work was done, she shared cakes and sweet breads for the road. Generosity like hers is simply part of the rhythm of community life every dayA rhythm soon to be matched by the long-awaited stability, strength and health that safe water brings.

Rosa uses a long wooden paddle to pull the sweet breads and rosquillas from her clay oven. There is plenty to share, for her family to enjoy, and even more to fill orders for the neighborhood. She enlists her daughter to help with the packaging and her nephews to take on the delivery. It is a family affair. A labor of love. Tight knit communities are accustomed to working together and to supporting each other. From the business of baking to the matter of safe water, many hands make light work.

From Rosa’s kitchen to yours — your support for safe water nourishes connection across countries. Thank you!
