Local Leadership In Action

In People, Updates from the field

Raquel is standing on top of the community water tank. As a water board member in Zocamil, El Salvador, she’s grown quite comfortable here. Every three days, she climbs up to add chlorine to the community’s water treatment system.

Until today, reaching the top has meant stepping onto a strategically placed boulder, grabbing a sturdy tree limb, and pulling herself up. Raquel made it work. But today, a ladder is being installed tank-side.

Raquel’s story isn’t really about climbing water tanks. It’s about what happens when local leaders have the tools, knowledge, and support to take ownership of safe water.
